Your eyes do not deceive you, Blueberry season is upon us!

This year, our Michigan Blueberries are priced at $2.90/lb. So for a 10 lb. box its $29. 

We are currently making phone calls to everyone who had placed an order in the Strawberry fields. If you haven't yet received your phone call, you can still come out and pick up your berries. Just be sure to inform the person calling, that you have already picked up your order.

If you were not able to get out to the Strawberry fields to place an order, No Worries! We have PLENTY of extras and look forward to seeing you.

Directions for Blueberry pick up: Take Highway 41 and get off on the Lineville exit heading West. You're going to drive about 3 1/2 miles before coming to Oak Rd. Take a right onto Oak Road and turn into the driveway of the brown house, which is the second house on the right. There are bright, yellow Sunny Hill signs to guide you along the way. The blueberries are located in the Yellow Shed behind the house, as well as all our other produce!

Blueberry season last till the middle of September and we make Weekly, if not Daily, trips to Michigan to keep our berries is full stock. So keep coming back for more.

Strawberries are still in full swing, so be sure to get a fruit overload by picking a flat of beautiful strawberries while out picking up your blueberries!

A Minor Overlook that could NOT be forgotten!

In our excitement to inform you about all the recipes and updates involving our Strawberries, we completely forgot to mention another Joy to this time of year: Sugar Snap Peas.

Our Sugar Snap Peas are also in season and are, currently, in great abundance. Many people can't come out for strawberries unless they get a bag or two of these amazing, green snacks!

Sugar Snap Peas are $2.50/lb pre-picked. We usually have bags of peas for purchase in the Strawberry fields next to the registers.

If you're feeling ambitious, we also have Pick-Your-Own Peas. We have 2 pea fields (both, of which, are located next to our 2 strawberry fields.) and the cost is $1.50/lb. Be sure to bring out a bag or container of some sort to collect your peas. Then to pay your just bring them to your nearest Strawberry Register.

Now you have 2 reasons to head on our to Sunny Hill Farm. Because, as is the same with all our produce, the season will be gone before you know it. :(

The Joys of the Season: 4th of July Flag Cake

Happy 3rd of July!! Today is the day when everyone is rushing around to complete their last minute Holiday plans. Well lucky for you, we have a quick and easy recipe that you can bring to your 4th of July picnics that is sure to be a crowd pleaser! A 4th of July Flag Cake! 

Ingredients:

Cake:

White Box Cake (Any brand will do, we chose Betty Crocker)

3 eggs

1 1/4 Cup of Water

1/3 Cup of Oil

Frosting:

2 packs of cream cheese.

1/2 cup Butter

2 cup Confectioners Sugar

1 tsp Vanilla

Fresh, Sunny Hill Strawberries

Blueberries (Fresh, Sunny Hill Blueberries would be preferred, but sadly they are unavailable until the 11th of July :/ )

*You start by making the cake by following the directions on the back of the box.

*As the cake is baking, mix together cream cheese, butter, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.

*After cake is fully baked, remove from the oven and let sit.

*Spread frosting over the top of cake evenly.

*Now we begin with the fruit. Make sure to wash your fruit before using it in the recipe.

*Begin by placing the blueberries in the upper left corner of the cake. Organize evenly in a perfect square.

*Next cut your strawberries in half and organize in neat, straight lines. Make about 6 lines of strawberries along the cake.

Ta Da! You have a delicious, fresh, and very patriotic dish that your friends and family will enjoy!

The Joys of the Season: Chocolate Covered Strawberries.

With strawberry season comes a demand for MANY different recipes featuring strawberries. So throughout the season we are going to be posting a couple popular recipes featuring our delicious strawberries.

Todays recipe, really needs no recipe at all, but is a class favorite! Chocolate Covered Strawberries. The fun thing about Chocolate Covered Strawberries is that you can make it your own and can create them however you see fit.

To put it simply, you start with a bowl of beautiful, Sunny Hill Strawberries. Its easiest if you keep the stems on the strawberries, but either way will work. Wash them and make sure they're clean and ready to eat. Then you start on the chocolate.

Now the easiest way we have found for this recipe is to use chocolate chips. So start with whatever flavor you like. We are huge fans of dark chocolate, so we usually buy the dark chocolate chips. But you can always get the original milk chocolate chips or white chocolate chips, if thats what you prefer. 

To melt the chocolate, you simply put the chips in a microwave safe container and toss it in the microwave for a minute and then stir. Then heat it up for another minute. A different method that we've used in the past, is to boil water in a large sauce pan and put the chocolate in a smaller sauce pan. Then place it inside the larger sauce pan, and continue to stir till it is fully melted. But the microwave is faster, easier, and is less messy.

After your chocolate is melted, you take your strawberries and dip them in the chocolate. Then place your freshly dipped berry on a cookie sheet with wax paper. If you would like to add more toppings to the strawberries (for example: crushed nuts, sprinkles, coconut, etc.), have them ready on a separate plate and dip the berries before setting them down. Another fun option is to use the white chocolate and the regular chocolate to create designs on your strawberries. Its best if you use a spoon or fork to drizzle the design onto the strawberry.

When finished put the strawberries in the fridge to chill or till chocolate hardens. Then take out and serve.

So there you have it. A fun, easy, delicious way to eat your fresh strawberries.

*Strawberry Fields Forever*

The sun is shining and the fields are full of beautiful red Strawberries; It MUST be Summertime! We have almost completed a full week of full-fledged Strawberry picking and there are still plenty of green berries, out in the field, waiting for their chance to ripen.

However, contrary to the title of the post, Strawberry season will not last forever. :( Which is why it is important for you to head on out to the field and pick your Sunny Hill Strawberries for the season!

How does one get out to Sunny Hill to pick Strawberries?? Well, you just need to follow Highway 41 North till you come to the Lineville Exit. Go West on Lineville for about 3 miles and you will see the bright yellow Sunny Hill signs leading you to the Strawberry Patch.

This year, Pick-Your-Own Strawberries are priced at $1.30/lb. If you don't have a container to pick in, thats ok! Because we provide flat boxes for you. We have organized picking here at Sunny Hill. A "field general" will find a row for you, to ensure the best possible, picking experience.

If you're not feeling up to picking, but are still craving your fresh Sunny Hill Strawberries, just give a call out to the farm (920-434-9009) and order some Strawberries Pre-picked. Then just drive out the the farm and pick them up at the Sunny Hill truck.

Strawberry picking is a family friendly tradition. So be sure to bring family and friends to better enjoy your strawberry picking experience. Also, be sure to come hungry...because all the berries eaten in the field are free :)

We will have picking for the next 2-3 weeks, for sure. If the cool weather continues we'll have picking even longer than that. So be sure to make time to come out with the family and enjoy a fun, SWEET, picking experience out here at Sunny Hill Farm!! :D

The first day of summer.

The trees in the old orchard have ended the budding and blooming that comes with Springtime. Now comes the gorgeous, lush green of Summer!!

As most of you have probably heard, today is Officially the first day of Summer. That being said, the rain made it quite a bit gloomy. Usually when one thinks about Summer, we think Sunshine, Shorts, Swimming. But I'll tell ya, these were not the thoughts going through my head today.

But Strawberries was definitely a word running through my mind. All the berries are finally beginning to ripen and the extra rain today is gonna make for amazing picking in the days to come.

So, without further adieu, I would like to announce the Pick-Your-Own Strawberries have begun. So feel free to come by this week to get your first taste of our sweet, gorgeous Strawberries. Feel free to call the farm with any questions you may concerning this seasons Strawberries (920-434-9009)

Red is our FAVORITE color this time of year.

This week when we walked out in the Strawberry fields we were welcomed with the scents and sights that we've been looking forward to for weeks now! The Strawberries are finally ripening and turning their luscious red color. With the cold weather we had at the beginning of our Spring, we really weren't expecting the berries to ripen so soon. But, it seems, the gorgeous warm weather we've received the last couple weeks has work its magic and within the week we should be open for Pick-Your-Own Strawberries. 

We love seeing the RED poke out between all the green. 6/16 

Some strawberry plants are still budding. This means that Strawberry season may be longer than usual.  Of course, we haven't heard any complaints about that ;) 6/16

Of course, Strawberries weren't the only crop to surprise us this season.

Sugar Snap Peas have also hit a growth spurt in the last week and is now producing pea pods. Still a bit small to start picking but we're close!

The corn is also progressing nicely. We had no hopes for it to be "Knee high by the 4th of July" but now with the slight change in weather, who knows?!? It could surprise us!

The potatoes are also benefitting from the warm, wet weather.
